The new Henry Bloom Noble Primary School is built on the site of the island’s former hospital in Westmoreland Road in Douglas. The school gained approval from Tynwald in December 2014 and replaces two 100-year-old schools deemed “unfit for modern learning needs” by government.
The new school’s environmental credentials are founded on the development of a brown field site, and the sustainable conversion of the former DHSC ward block, rather than demolition.
Keim Royalan silicate mineral paint was chosen for protection and decoration of the external rendered surfaces. Keim Royalan is a mineral silicate based paint system developed to withstand harsh climatic conditions, ideally suited for use in exposed locations and those subject to continual pollutants and contaminants.
The architect for the project was Phil Chadwick of Savage and Chadwick.
The main contractor for the project was Tooms Bros (with sister companies Caines and IDG).
